The Chemical (Process) Engineer is responsible for performing all aspects of process engineering for industrial facilities, including but not limited to water, material, energy balances, process flow diagrams, piping and instrumentation diagrams, operating procedures, etc. Additional responsibilities include preparing proposals and establishing completion dates as well as utilizing process engineering software systems to develop and design systems, processes, and equipment.


  • Use process simulation and other process engineering tools to design processes, design/size equipment, and support projects
  • Write specifications for equipment and systems, and work with vendors to select/purchase equipment
  • Work closely with drafters to develop process flow diagrams (PFD’s) and piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID’s)
  • Write SOPs and control narratives
  • Develop mass and energy balances
  • Work to improve and optimize our client’s processes and provide on-going engineering support for clients
  • Design and implement processes, structures, equipment, and machinery
  • Determine cause of failures, damages, and defects through investigations (plant support projects)
  • Estimate costs, personnel, and materials needed for preparing proposals and establishing completion dates
  • Be dependable to the team and complete work in a timely, accurate and thorough manner
  • Contribution of your two or more years of chemical process engineering experience to Nelson Baker’s projects and team


  • Ideal candidates will have process simulation software experience, specifically in Aspen Plus
  • Aspen EDR experience desirable
  • MS Project experience desirable
  • Superior organizational skills and the ability to multi-task
  • Ability to work independently with minimum instructions, maintain records and high degree of accuracy
