The Sales Manager is responsible for the development of a strong pipeline of new projects and clients. The Sales Manager shall assume responsibility and take commensurate authority for the performance of the following activities:

  • Development of new prospects
  • Indirect and direct client contact such as visiting customer sites, attending trade shows, etc. to increase sales while representing Nelson Baker in a professional manner
  • Proposal development, contract negotiations, initiating client estimates, and providing a comprehensive project scope definition for the engineering team

Daily activities of the Sales Manager may include:

  • Develop new client prospects while maintaining relationships with existing clients through direct and indirect contact via visiting clients’ sites, attending trade shows, etc
  • Maintain prospect and client information though a customer relationship management (CRM) system
  • Collaborate with clients to fully understand their needs and offer alternative options
  • Utilize technical writing skills to clearly define the project scope, including generating PFD and GAs
  • Interface with the Nelson Baker team to develop proposals
  • Identify and develop new channels for providing value to clients
  • Consult with the Nelson Baker marketing team on client and market research to identify and develop new channels for providing value
  • Provide annual reports to leadership team detailing achievements, sales goals, and the plan to achieve these sales goals


  • Bachelor’s degree, or higher, in Engineering or Construction Management; or 10+ years of Industrial Construction expertise
  • Previous exposure to the Ethanol process
  • Previous experience in Bio processes
  • Ability to work remotely (initially, time will be spent at the Sioux Falls office and traveling to local sites to gain knowledge of our current and past projects, contracts, and clientele base)
  • Ability to cold call prospects 20%+ of the time
  • Independently travel approximately 60-70% of the time
